Northbridge Insurance Transportation Safety Award
The Northbridge Insurance Transportation Safety Award was created to recognize excellence in the Canadian transportation industry. First awarded in 2021, the Award champions the safety achievements of transportation companies from across the country and their dedication to building a safety-focused culture within their company.
Every year, we select finalists and regional winners based on several factors. These criteria include the carrier’s achievements on our Transportation Best Practices Profile, an excellent track record in crash trends, collisions per million miles, high-cost type collisions, visibility-related collisions, and proactive industry involvement.
Carriers who have been policyholders for at least two consecutive years, have a proven management and company-wide safety commitment, and shown great collaboration as a Northbridge Insurance partner are eligible for this award.
2025 Northbridge Insurance Transportation Safety Award Winner: Caneda Transport Ltd.
With more than 70 years of experience supporting carriers, Northbridge Insurance created the Transportation Safety Award to spotlight companies that go above and beyond in their safety practices, and over the past five years, it has become a mark of excellence in the Canadian transportation industry.
For 2025, an impressive safety record and culture rooted in proactivity earned Caneda Transport the top prize: National Winner of the 2025 Northbridge Insurance Transportation Safety Award.
This prestigious recognition celebrates Caneda’s unwavering commitment to safety excellence, proactive risk management, and industry leadership. Caneda Transport is part of the Mullen Group and the first National Winner in Western Canada.

Highlights from the celebration event
On June 25th, representatives from Caneda Transport, Mullen Group, and Westland Insurance were on site at Caneda Transport for a recognition ceremony and employee lunch to celebrate the carrier’s achievement.
Accepting the award on behalf of Caneda Transport, Heather Mathiesen, Vice President and General Manager highlighted her team’s commitment to safety, “This recognition is a testament to the values we hold dear and the unwavering commitment of every individual to ensure everyone goes home to their family every night. We are responsible for 105 families.”

She continued, “Safety should not just be a checklist item that we dutifully tick off, it needs to be an integral part of our culture, something we genuinely celebrate and uphold every day.
